The South’s leading independent waste management company, L&S Waste, is continuing to invest in its success by appointing two new staff members.
Area development managers Jim Pearce and Mark Alford have both recently joined the Fareham-based company and are already hard at work.

 Grasping the opportunities for growth presented by a sustainable construction and property sector will be the main priority for the new Green Construction Board, which held its first meeting today. 

The board, which is co-chaired by Business Minister Mark Prisk and Chief Executive of Lend Lease, EMEA Dan Labbad, will be focused on taking a unified approach to the problems facing the industry and setting out an action plan to combat them. They will also work on persuading sceptics both inside and outside of the industry that a ‘green’ construction sector can lead to growth.

New evidence showing that air pollution emissions have gone down again in Wales, has been welcomed by the Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development, John Griffiths.

Key findings in the report show how air quality is now better than at any time since the industrial revolution. Overall emissions of the seven priority pollutants have reduced substantially since the introduction of the air pollution inventory in 1990.  

Local communities in Runcorn and Widnes are to get a chance to have their say on potential money saving improvements to the Mersey Gateway Project.

The chance comes following the announcement earlier this week by the Transport Secretary that the Government is to invest up to £470million in the project over its lifetime. This investment confirms that the project will go ahead.

Proposed modifications to the road layouts that are being considered on either side of the river would reduce projected traffic levels on local routes around Halton Brow in Runcorn, and remove the need for large toll plazas in Widnes. These are at the heart of modified proposals to deliver the Mersey Gateway Project.

Environment Systems has won a contract to carry out a study of the condition of the Georgia Rangelands using satellite imagery and its own established remote sensing expertise. The study is being undertaken under the Alliances Programme run by Mercy Corps and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The programme is focused on improving the beef, sheep and dairy sectors in the Kvemo Kartli region of Georgia. It will provide a baseline from which to inform and guide program policy and future interventions surrounding access to pasture and improved nutrition for small scale livestock producers. It will be shared with the wider development community plus local and national government.

Donauer Solartechnik presents new mounting system at Solar Power UK 2011  

At Solar Power UK 2011 in Birmingham from 26 to 28th October, Donauer Solartechnik will be presenting its new mounting frame: the Futura Siplex system with snap-in functions. It can be used on all roof types. The specialist wholesale company developed the system as part of its own INTERSOL range.

“Futura Siplex is a snap-in system that is particularly easy for installation technicians to work with for roof-top projects”, explains Annett Boland, engineer from the development department of Donauer. “The pre-assembled components reduce the installation time by up to 20 percent compared to previous mounting systems.”

Chief Executive Principal of South Staffordshire College Graham Morley has today announced that the Department for Education has confirmed that the college can establish an academy for 14 – 19 year olds studying land-based, rural, environmental and sustainability subjects at its Rodbaston Campus.

The school, to be established in direct response to parental and industry demand, will be known as The Rural Enterprise Academy and will open in September 2012.  

Graham said: “We are absolutely delighted by this news which endorses the quality of learning available at South Staffordshire College and underlines the opportunities in the rural sector available to the young people at our Rodbaston Campus.”
