Mersey Gateway team ‘delighted’ as Transport Secretary makes funding announcement

Mersey Gateway bosses have today (Monday 3 October 2011) said they are ‘delighted’ that Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP has confirmed that a detailed funding agreement for the project has been signed off by Government.

The Secretary of State for Transport confirmed the agreement in a news release issued today by the Department for Transport, saying: “The Mersey Gateway Bridge is an important transport project which will improve journeys and boost economic growth. It will not only provide much needed traffic relief for the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge, but also help to regenerate the Borough of Halton, the Liverpool city region and the wider north west by improving transport links, maximising local development and regional economic growth opportunities.

 Brussels, October 3, 2011 – Honeywell (NYSE: HON) introduced a new liquid blowing agent in the company’s growing family of low-global-warming materials.

Solstice™ Liquid Blowing Agent can be used in a variety of insulation applications including spray-foam, foam insulating panels and refrigerator insulation. Use of the new material can make refrigerators up to 10 to 12 percent more energy efficient than those insulated by hydrocarbon-blown foam, and more than 2 percent more energy efficient than refrigerators containing today’s most widely-used insulating agent, HFC-245fa. In residential and commercial building spray-applied insulating foam, Solstice Liquid Blowing Agent provides a 5 percent improvement in thermal insulation value over HFC-245fa-based spray foam.

Electricity from dried poo is UK first, says Thames Water

A sewage company is claiming to be the first in the UK to use dried poo granules to generate electricity.

Thames Water has installed a £1.5 million sewage sludge dryer at its treatment plant in Slough and estimates that the resulting renewable fuel will be worth £300,000 and reduce its carbon emissions by over 500 tonnes a year.

Mr Labbad, an experienced property and construction executive, who is currently Chief Executive Officer - Europe, Middle East & Africa for Lend Lease, will take up his position immediately and will sit alongside Mr Prisk, who is also co-Chair.

Sutton and East Surrey Water opts for Saint-Gobain PAM ductile iron pipes and fittings for new 5km pipeline

 Iron technology leader Saint-Gobain PAM UK, part of leading international materials company, Saint-Gobain, has been awarded a £500,000 contract by Sutton and East Surrey Water to supply pipes and fittings for a new pipeline which connects the existing trunk main network at Mogador Road, Lower Kingswood, to storage reservoirs 5km away at Burgh Heath.

Environmental activists barricade Transport for London offices in Blackfriars protest

At 8 o’clock on Thursday morning, eco-activist group Climate Rush will join influential bike bloggers and local pedestrian and cycle groups to stage a go-slow on Blackfriars Bridge and barricade Transport for London offices to protest against TfL’s car-centric policies. Liberal Democrat MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, Simon Hughes, will speak at the rally, as will Green London Assembly member Darren Johnson.
