Hanson responsibly sourced across whole business

Hanson UK has been certified with the Responsible Sourcing of Materials (RSM) standard across all of its product lines.

Hanson’s cement range and its Regen™ ground granulated blastfurnace slag were the final products to receive BES 6001 (RSM) with a rating of ‘very good’. The company already has certification for asphalt, bricks, Thermalite blocks, ready-mixed concrete and aggregates.

State of the Environment Report for Wales published

Progress is being made in improving the environment in Wales, show new statistics published today (21 July).

The latest figures show that of the 100 indicators that have been defined and where information exists, 47 per cent show an improvement. Only five indicators show a decline. The report shows improvements in many areas across Wales including recycling, bathing water quality and fly tipping.

Minister works with small retailers on Wales’ carrier bag charge

Small retailers should find it easy to manage Wales’s carrier bag charge when it comes into force in October, following an announcement today by Environment Minister, John Griffiths.

 As of 1st October, shoppers in Wales will have to pay a minimum of 5p for every carrier bag they are given, in an effort to dramatically cut down on the excessive number of bags given out each year.

 The charge will also mean that retailers in Wales will be obliged to keep a record of the number of bags they issue and account for how proceeds from the carrier charge are used.
