Survey reveals only 1 in 250 fly-tipping offences are successfully prosecuted

There needs to be an urgent review of the process for prosecuting fly-tipping offenders, according to Jason Mohr, MD and founder of AnyJunk, Britain’s largest rubbish clearance company, which has just released its 2011 Fly-tipping Report.

Mr Mohr said their analysis – which is the result of a survey across England’s local council areas and London boroughs – found that whilst fly-tipping instances fell an encouraging 15% last year, they still cost the country £36m in clear-up costs and only a mere 0.4% were successfully prosecuted.

Minister helps keep Wales tidy

Environment Minister, John Griffiths was in Newport  to launch Tidy Wales Week and kick off Newport’s Chewing Gum Action Group campaign.

The Minister took part in a litter pick to highlight the importance of keeping Welsh towns and the Welsh countryside tidy and also spoke about the negative contribution that carrier bags make to litter right across Wales.

Wales’ natural environment benefits from an extra one million pound

 Environment Minister, John Griffiths has today announced an extra £1million to help create new habitats and stronger ecosystems for Wales.

 The money will be used to enhance Wales’ precious natural environment and in doing so will benefit its wider economy. 

 It will also be used to develop new pilot projects that support the Welsh Government’s plans for managing the natural environment as set out in its natural environment consultation,   ‘A Living Wales’. The consultation set out an ecosystems approach aimed at ensuring that Wales has increasingly resilient and diverse environment, managed to deliver economic, social and environmental benefits for Wales.
