Lonza Wood Protection will be presenting at a forthcoming Wood Marketing Federation (WMF) seminar entitled ‘Wood for All Seasons’. The event, to be held at Farmleigh House, near Phoenix Park, in Dublin on Friday 11th May aims to explore the innovative use of wood and wood products mainly in external applications as part of the WMF’s wood promotion programme.

The WMF has invited a wide range of stakeholders, including specifiers, agricultural professionals, timber treatment companies, local authorities and governmental departments and university lecturers.

The organisation is also keen to encourage the next generation of Architects and designers to attend the seminar, urging future specifiers to consider the importance of wood as both a sustainable and versatile construction material that can be utilised in a variety of applications, by using the correct timber treatment product and installation methodsappropriate for the timber’s end use.

Paul Harvey, Lonza Wood Protection’s Business Manager for Lonza and Chairman of the WMF, will be closing the seminar, which begins at 8:30am and runs throughout the morning and early afternoon. As well as Mr Harvey, a number of industry experts have been invited to present at the half-day event. They will focus on a broad range of timber-related topics, including an introduction to panel products, case studies centring on timber design in domestic and large scale building projects throughout Ireland and wider Europe and presentations on the effective treatment of both external and every-day use timbers to ensure a long service life. The WMF will also welcome Minister of State with Responsibility for Forestry at the Department of Agriculture, Food & Marine, Shane McEntree, to the proceedings who will be delivering an exciting opening address to delegates. The event will conclude with a 30 minute Questions and Answer session, open to all stakeholders who may have questions or concerns relating to timber uses and treatment.

Lonza has been a long-time supporter of the WMFwhose primary mission is to promote wood as a renewable, sustainable and versatile natural construction material throughout the Republic of Ireland from their base in Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow. The organisation also supports many timber-related projects and initiatives all over the country, such as the Third Level Students Wood Award judged by an expert panel of specifiers, as well as providing educational and promotional material for construction professionals, timber consumers and students.

Paul Harvey said of the event, ‘As Chairman of the WMF, I am proud to represent our industry at such exciting events as we (the industry) continue to promote the benefits of using timber, our world’s most natural construction resource, within our country’s new buildings and developments, as well as projects across the globe. Events such as the Wood for all Seasons seminar provides the timber industry with an opportunity to meet with specifiers to build a professional rapport and answer any questions or concerns that the specifier may have’.
