In the past few decades the importance of sustainability and environmental management has risen on the agenda of many organisations in response to challenges posed by climate change risks and opportunities. As nations and organisations around the world move towards becoming more sustainable, environmental management professionals, business executives and professionals working across the supply chain, are now required to expand their existing skills to incorporate business sustainability skills.
As part of their commitment to the development of sustainability skills amongst professionals around the world, the University of Derby Online Learning will be hosting a series of free seminars in Nigeria with the theme: Developing Skills for a Sustainable Economy. The seminars are jointly accredited with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and are a great opportunity for intending and existing environmental professionals, or those interested in sustainability.
Delegates attending the seminar will gain information on current trends in business sustainability and environmental management, as well as knowledge on the skills required to drive sustainable change within organisations. The seminars are a great networking opportunity for those interested in sustainability and existing or intending IEMA members.
The seminars will be taking place in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, and will be hosted by sustainability and environmental management specialist, Dr Uche Okere.
Speaking on the benefits of the seminar, Dr Okere said, “The seminars will benefit existing and intending sustainability professionals, as well as professionals working across the value chain because we will be discussing current trends in sustainability management, skills required to remain relevant in the field and how to develop these skills. There’ll also be opportunities to meet fellow professionals and develop potentially beneficial partnerships”.
Dr Okere will also be joined by Tim Balcon and Spencer Clubb, IEMA’s Chief Executive and Policy and Engagement Lead, to introduce the IEMA Skills Map. They will advise on how you can become an IEMA member and the associated benefits of membership.
Ahead of the seminar, Tim Balcon has said, “I am hugely inspired by this seminar series. The globally recognised IEMA Sustainability Skills Map is your essential tool to identify the skills and knowledge you need to progress your career as a successful environmental professional. As an accredited IEMA member, you will demonstrate your knowledge and capability to employers and peers across the world.”
Participants at these seminars will also receive a free jointly accredited CPD Certificate of Attendance from the University of Derby and IEMA.
