Recycling delight as Huyton hits new heights

A new Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Knowsley is hitting the heights as the best performing Centre in Merseyside.

Since it was opened in July 2012 the Huyton HWRC on Wilson Road, Huyton Business Park, has continued to improve recycling levels and divert more waste away from landfill. During the summer it managed to recycle and divert a record 85% of the waste accepted at the site.

This level of recycling performance has never been seen before on Merseyside* and Huyton HWRC’s performance can now be compared to the best Centres in the UK.

Efficient Recycling: It’s the homeowner’s responsibility

altLord de Mauley, a minister in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), has just announced to local authorities that new EU rules will see Britons everywhere forced to separate their recycling into at least 4 boxes. The rules that will come into force in 2015 will see everyone have separate boxes for their unwanted paper, metal, glass and plastic.

This drive for efficiency is being made in the hope of increasing the quality of the products integral to the recycling sector. Specifically, it is expected that this will improve the quality of recyclates – the raw materials that are processed at a recycling plant – as they will not be mixed in with other types of waste.

WEEE Recycling: It’s booming and here’s why

altWEEE recycling is booming. Frost & Sulliven have recently reported that earned revenues in Europe from the industry were roughly $1.3 billion last year and that they predict that by 2020 this could have reached nearly $2 billion.

They cite EU laws, environmental awareness and increasing landfill prices as being the main reasons why the demand for WEEE recycling has shot up in recent years.

Online traffic rockets as UNTHA UK celebrates website anniversary

Leading waste shredder provider UNTHA UK is dispelling any concerns that demand for recycling and waste management technologies is stagnant in the UK. Statistics from the first 12 months of the company’s online activity have been analysed, and the level of traffic is not only strong, it is continuing to grow.

The UNTHA UK website was launched on 31 August 2012, in anticipation for last year’s RWM event. In less than a week, the team dominated Google’s natural listings for key search terms, and that search engine governance has increased as the year has unfolded. Active in the world of social media, UNTHA UK’s Twitter and Linked In accounts have also delivered an increasing amount of referral traffic to the website.
