How bans and laws are safeguarding the planet

With news stories filled with evermore frequent freak weather events, the damage of climate change is difficult to ignore. Plus, there’s the matter of the natural world in general suffering due to plastic pollution and more. The simple fact is that the effects of human life are slowly breaking the planet we live on, and the governments of the world have begun to unite in earnest to try and reverse the effects.

Jacqueline O'Donovan announced as Vice-Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce

The Strategic Transport Apprenticeship Taskforce (STAT) and the Department for Transport (DfT) have chosen Jacqueline O’Donovan as the Vice-Chair of its new Diversity and Inclusion group. On behalf of DfT and STAT, the launch of a Year of Diversity in Transport and Logistics will be headed up by Tracey Worth, CEO Institute of Couriers andChair of the STAT group. As Vice-Chair, Jacqueline will provide vision and leadership in promoting a culture in the sector that values and supports diversity, equality and inclusion.

UNTHA appoints industry stalwart as Director of Global Business Development

Industrial shredding specialist UNTHA has appointed Briton Gary Moore as Director of Global Business Development.

The Austrian-headquartered firm has made the strategic decision ahead of 25% projected worldwide growth, over the next 12 months.

Currently Sales Director of UNTHA UK – a position he will maintain – Gary has played an instrumental role in developing the UK business by 50% during 2018. But 2019 looks set to be even bigger with 12 Waste to Energy shredding solution sales already secured in the first four months of the year. An exclusive distributor agreement for the XR mobil-e shredder range is soon to be announced, sales of parts and other UNTHA service products are up by 40%, and two further sales appointments are also imminent as the team looks to expand.

Putting the health back into health and safety

In what is a ground-breaking move for an SME in the waste sector, O’Donovan Waste Disposal have introduced and completed the implementation of an internal wellbeing strategy called the ‘Dynamo Welfare Project’ (Dynamo), continuing their commitment to prioritising the workplace wellness of their 165 employees alongside their physical safety. This huge investment in terms of time and money strengthens the companies unique pledge to staff development and the delivery of the highest standard to clients. The multi award-winning family-run waste management business is widely regarded as an innovator and a champion for health and safety, training and environmental excellence.

Research by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) – Waste Statistics in the UK 2018, found that workers in the waste sector statistically suffered more from work-related ill-health than other workers across all industries. Dynamo assists staff in maintaining positive health and wellbeing by teaching self-awareness techniques and the tools to manage a range of negative emotions including anxiety. The programme includes interactive ongoing training modules for all staff which is delivered in-house. The training increases the ability of participants to maintain their composure and stabilise emotions as they face day-to-day challenges in their work and private lives.

Hat-trick of appointments for shredder specialist

Marie Dransfield joins the North Yorkshire headquartered company as Quality and Environmental Manager. As UNTHA UK’s standards champion, she will ensure the team upholds its approach to everything under the internal auditing, ISO certification, risk management, and compliance umbrellas.
