Sudan, South Sudan teams to join JICA training

The official news Agency of Bangladesh (BSS) has issued following news release:

Executives of Sudan and South Sudan arrived here today for a five-day Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) training on "Solid Waste Management in Bangladesh".

Since 2000, Jica has been technically supporting Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) on Solid Waste Management from waste collection to land filling as well as environmental education for community resident, a press release said.

Executives from the Sudan will learn skill and know-how in the waste management from Bangladesh and utilize the findings for their countries.

In both Sudan, the need of the waste management has risen by increase of waste amount with the population growth and urban environment has been worsening because of the lack of appropriatemanagement with the limitation such as weakness of social systemand economy.

That is the Dhaka situation 10 years ago. Both countries are eager to learn good practice of Bangladesh case together.

Through formulation of Clean Dhaka Master Plan, JICA has been providing technical support to sustainable the waste management services.

JICA dispatched experts to support technically from waste collection to land filling properly and JICA volunteers enlighten to the community residents. The concerned efforts of JICA, DNCC and DSCC have increased the collection and transportation of the waste from 44 percent to 52.5 percent.

The citizen's satisfaction level has also increased from 36 percent to 50 percent. JICA also technically supported both DCCs to construct two sanitary landfills.

During the five-day, both Sudan teams will visit several sites for daily operation on waste collection including Matwail that is the biggest landfill in South Asia.

They also visit the site where JICA volunteers has been spread enlightenment of environmental education to community residents.
