Specifiers looking to maximise the energy efficiency of their clients’ central heating system should choose a magnetic filter before considering anything else, according to Eclipse Magnetics.

As well as improving energy efficiency by up to 6%, specifying a magnetic filter such as BoilerMag combats the problem of ferrous oxide or black sludge and in doing so avoids radiator cold spots, poor circulation, blocked pipes, excessive noise, frequent breakdowns and premature pump wear.

Construction firm G F Tomlinson has completed a new £15 million school building project.

The new Tibshelf Community School in Tibshelf, Derbyshire has been designed and constructed to accommodate more than 750 students from the local community.

Birmingham City University’s new multi-million pound flagship campus has been honoured with the ‘Sustainability Award’ at the recent Insider West Midlands Property Awards, beating competition from Birmingham Library and Two Snowhill.

The flagship Parkside Building, based in Eastside in Birmingham City Centre, was praised by judges for the ‘attention to detail’ put into the project; considering low carbon and low impact design and technologies, whilst also achieving BREEAM Excellent as a measure of its true sustainability credential.

Street furniture manufacturer, Townscape Products Limited, has provided Bristol’s largest primary school with new eco-timber shelters as part of the school’s £5.2million extension.

Commissioned by project contractors, Skanska, Townscape was tasked to develop a sustainable and cost-effective canopy solution to link the old and new buildings at Air Balloon Hill Primary School in Bristol.

Troldtekt acoustic panels have been used to great effect in the design of the Music Cafe at the famous Aldeburgh Music development at Snape Maltings, founded by composer Benjamin Britten in derelict industrial buildings on the Suffolk coast.

The Music Cafe, part of architects Haworth Tompkins' phased extension of the creative campus, has been created by converting a former granary store into a cafe and reception point for artists and staff. In order to reduce noise reverberation, the architects have used 160m2 of fine natural wood Troldtekt panels to create an attractive and high performance acoustic ceiling.

An iconic new grassroots sporting facility, designed to integrate effortlessly with its environment, has been officially opened in Thamesmead by Football legend Sir Trevor Brooking CBE.

A homeowner in Northern Ireland has reported a 60 per cent saving on this energy bills after having a Danfoss heat pump fitted to replace an oil fired boiler.

Simon Bamford, who lives just outside Lisburn in Northern Ireland, approached Danfoss two years ago, as he was carrying out a major refurbishment of his dormer bungalow, including adding a one bedroom extension. This would mean the house had a lower carbon footprint and he hoped would make it more affordable to run.
