New environment training institute to be setup

altA National Environmental Training Institute would be established in the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) premises for environmental protection under the directive of Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, said CEA Chairman Wimal Rubasinghe.

The new institute will be established using the available resources without making additional expenses. It will be used to create awareness on ongoing environment related activities and environmental protection. The consultation on training programmes will be provided by a staff comprised of university lecturers and experts representing other government agencies.

Health and safety training for businesses

Centre named as council's green project of the year

Glynneath Training Centre has been awarded Neath Port Talbot Council's Green Project of the Year award.

Winners were announced at an Environment Awards ceremony last month in Neath where the centre also scooped the overall winners prize for 2012.

The Level 3 Award in Understanding the Fundamental Principles and Requirements of Environmental Technology Systems is for people with roles that involve the management or specification of environmental technologies, and people who have to inform or advise customers and clients about environmental technologies, their use and benefits.

HE Simm launches new safety initiative

altThe Liverpool-based engineering company is to up-skill its whole UK supply chain as part of a 'passport to work' scheme.

The mechanical, engineering and public health firm will provide subsidised training to almost 100 stakeholder companies to increase on-site health and safety competence.

The 'passport to work' will ensure every operative at HE Simm's MEP projects across the UK will have received IOSH or accredited safety and awareness training.
