Kier North Tyneside operative goes above and beyond to have positive environmental impact


Operatives in North Tyneside have discovered the benefits making a few small changes can have on their carbon footprint thanks to newly introduced environmentally friendly processes implemented onto sites across the region. The scheme, set up by Kier North Tyneside temporary site supervisor Jimmy Scott, involves collecting rainwater and reusing it on site to mix mortar, service toilets and clean tools.

Launch of EIC Manifesto for Driving Growth and Competitiveness in the UK’s Green Economy

The Environmental Industries Commission [1] is today launching its 2011 “Manifesto for Driving Growth and Competiveness in the UK’s Green Economy”. The Manifesto will be launched in the House of Commons Members’ Dining Room, with a keynote speech from Mark Prisk MP, Minister for Business and Innovation.

This environmental industry policy manifesto sets out a series of recommendations on how the Coalition Government can establish a  world-leading environmental industry in the UK - with thousands of new businesses, hundreds of thousands of new jobs and huge export potential. This Industry Manifesto has been prepared by leading business people and policy experts in the UK’s environmental industry, which has a value of £112 billion, an export turnover of some £10 billion and employs just under one million people.

RDM’s first international conference for global distributor partners ‘a tremendous success’

International_line-upRDM, the leading UK energy and building controls specialist, last month held its first international distributor conference at its headquarters in Glasgow. The two-day event drew together senior representatives from the company’s growing international network, which now covers the US, Canada, France, Germany, Sweden, Holland, Turkey and Malaysia. Delegates were given an insight into RDM’s plans for the future, including the long-term vision for the company’s development and product launches planned for the coming year.

A key part of RDM’s strategy is to build on its success and leadership in the refrigeration and food retail sector by expanding into the wider market for energy and building controls.

Andrew Chandler, RDM managing director, said: “The pioneering platform at the heart of RDM technology has been hugely successful in the food retail industry. However, it is designed to be infinitely flexible and can be applied to almost any building or application.”

Food waste collections reach four out of five Welsh homes

Eighty per cent of households in Wales can now see how much food they throw away thanks to separate collections of food or food and green waste. All 22 Welsh councils provide the service to at least some of their residents, and the number of households covered continues to grow.
