School of GeoSciences

The University of Edinburgh is ranked within the world’s top 20 universities, with Earth and Marine Sciences and Geography both ranked 15th worldwide (QS World University Rankings 2015). The School of GeoSciences is the largest grouping of GeoScientists in the UK, with around 400 academics and research students. The most recent Research Excellent Framework (REF 2014) identified us as having the greatest concentration of ‘world leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’ researchers in the UK.

As well as being a centre for academic excellence, we are a friendly, welcoming School with regular social activities for all our students. Edinburgh is well known for being one of the best places in the UK to live and study, and its proximity to the rest of Scotland and an international airport makes it a perfect base for local and international field trips.
