Liverpool John Lennon Airport would lose around 150,000 passengers a year if additional taxes are introduced, according to a new report. The government wants to increase air passenger duty (APD) from £12 to up to £16 for short haul flights from next year.
Frontier Economics, commissioned by low cost carrier Easyjet to investigate the impact, estimated that JLA could lose 3.5% of its passengers (148,000) if the change is introduced.




THE EU was under fire last night for seeking a ban on plastic shopping bags to fight pollution. Shops in Britain could be outlawed from stocking them, or alternatively there might be a new tax to dramatically reduce their use.
Welsh Water has come bottom of a performance league table of water companies, partly due to its pollution record. The Environment Agency (EA) rated the company worst out of all 10 UK firms in 2009.
