Sunday, 16 May 2010 00:00

Environment UK K2 Architects picLiverpool based K2 Architects was established in March 2007 is headed up by Architect Directors Kevin Horton and Mark Davies who first collaborated together as design architects on Grosvenor’s £1 Billon Liverpool One Development.

“The aim of the practice is to produce high quality design with a strong emphasis on innovation and sustainability.” Says Kevin. Their ambition and drive is already bearing fruit. “In January of this year K2 Architects became one of six successful finalists, from a field of over 100 architectural practices from across the globe, in the RIBA design led competition for the £250m ‘Make Me a Home’ competition for developers Urban Splash and Muse Developments in Stockton-On-Tees".

We are currently developing this ‘house typology’ which redefines the traditional terrace for sustainable living with a view to launching the scheme in Spring 2010.” he adds is an RIBA Chartered Practice which specialises in bespoke cutting edge sustainable residential design, whilst maintaining a strong interest in multi-million pound regeneration and masterplanning, through to office, retail and educational schemes. Due for completion in December Cloud house is the first in a series of bespoke sustainable homes that K2 are developing.

Innovative line-up for Ecobuild Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 February 2010 00:00

Since its launch in 2005 Ecobuild has established itself as the biggest event in the world for sustainable design, construction and the built environment. During that time it has roughly doubled in size every year.

Environment UK Ecobuild_vidpicThe 2010 event will take place at Earls Court from 2-4 March. As usual it will feature a number of innovations: for instance, for the first time it will have a Fringe mounting a number of events peripheral to the main exhibition and conference.

The list of conference speakers is also innovative, with industry figures joining the debate with politicians, environmental campaigners, scientists and some less predictable personalities – such as the Bishop of Liverpool and impressionist Alastair McGowan.

Ecobuild strives to reflect the preoccupations of the sector it serves – championing the emerging green construction movement at its start, engaging and encouraging debate and discussion and now seeking out and highlighting the continuing opportunities for sustainable construction.

Ecobuild is also the definitive source of information for specifiers across UK construction and beyond: 34,617 visitors attended last year.

Accurate breath alcohol testing for reduced drink driving limits Print E-mail
Tuesday, 16 February 2010 11:00

The proposed reductions to drink driving limits in Northern Ireland could mean that drivers will be tested at 50mg per 100ml of blood instead of the current 80mg.  An additional proposal to reduce limits for professional drivers and young drivers could mean a further reduction to 20mg.  Whatever the limit, the Draeger Alcotest 6810 breath alcohol measuring instrument is simple, quick and easy to use and will show an accurate, clear result that can be both recorded and printed in situ.
